ABOUT SOFIA
I'm a trained scenic artist and mixed media artist, born and raised in Sweden to an English mother and Swedish father. Moving over to the UK in 2005, I studied and received the following qualifications; an Art Foundation Diploma, awarded a Distinction from Bournemouth Arts Institute, a BA(Hons) in Animation, awarded a 2:1 from the University of the West of England and a Post Graduate Diploma from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in Scenic Art in 2014.
Currently living in the UK, I work mainly in theatre, painting shows for the West End and other theatres across the UK as well as Broadway, NY and other countries. In 2014 I started working full time for Richard Nutbourne Scenic Studio based in Surrey. During my time there I sometimes worked as head painter and also regularly lead teams at the workshop, sometimes up to 20 people. I stayed there until the summer of 2021 when I went freelance. My more recent work is in teaching and freelance scenic artist at Mountview Academy of Theatrical Arts, London. I take on commissions of murals, portraits and other artistic endeavours.
My passion is also my own artwork, which comprises of intricate line drawings in biro and paintings of all sorts, my main interest being portraits and also depicting textures of all kinds. I find beauty in the decay of nature and inspiration in the way nature envelopes man-made objects, such as old buildings with its spores and mould, creepers and roots. Influenced certainly by my upbringing in the countryside in Sweden, with its dark mysterious forests and lakes.
